Sea Accepts All Rivers-Moca Taipei

The mission of the Beautiful Taiwan Care Association is to use compassion and thoughtfulness to advocate diversified integration of environmental education, academia, industry, culture and art. It encourages young people to devote themselves to social services and to actively take part in making Taiwan more beautiful.

Born in 1991, Chang Chia-Ju graduated from the Department of Painting and Calligraphy Arts, National Taiwan University of Arts. Throughout her journeys as a student, an artist, and a teacher, Chang has always been seeking connections between art and society. In the past, she has predominately worked with traditional calligraphy and ink paintings, but for this artwork, she has incorporated the use of discarded advertisement banners found in Taiwan with the style of traditional literati ink painting, highlighting the notion that each individual entity is able to take on a specific active role in our massive and complex social network.

Sea Accepts All Rivers-Moca Taipei is pasted on the glass windows of MOCA, Taipei along the hallways on the 1st floor and 2nd floor, with this landscape installation a collaborative result between the Beautiful Taiwan Care Association and a young emerging artist, Chang Chia-Ju. The artwork is artistically innovative and utilizes recycled resources. The materials applied consist of discarded banners, including advertisements and banners announcing art and cultural events. With the artist’s creativity and manuscript combined with time-consuming handiwork done by MOCA, Taipei volunteers, the result is a landscape comprised of dazzling flowers blooming on the ink colored and intricately intertwining branches of an old tree, with each flower Symbolizing each individual person and the tree an epitome of society.
